The story behind the shirt
2004/05 in context
This home strip defines a massive evolutionary turning point for German football. Worn during the UEFA Euro 2004 campaign in Portugal, this specific tournament cycle proved difficult for Die Mannschaft after an early group stage exit. However, the disappointment acted as the ultimate catalyst for change. Immediately following the tournament, legendary striker Jürgen Klinsmann took the reins as manager and officially appointed Michael Ballack as national team captain. Ballack grew into the absolute heartbeat of the squad, laying down the elite mentality and foundational blueprint that would eventually carry Germany to global dominance.
