The story behind the shirt

2016/17 in context

This jersey represents arguably the single most dominant, historic season in Real Madrid’s modern history. Under Zinedine Zidane, the 2016/17 squad achieved footballing immortality, becoming the first-ever club to retain the UEFA Champions League in its modern format, while simultaneously capturing the La Liga title in a historic Double campaign. At the absolute spearhead of this success was Cristiano Ronaldo. This was the legendary season of his iconic repositioning into a lethal center-forward, scoring back-to-back hat-tricks in the Champions League knockouts against Bayern Munich and Atlético Madrid, before netting twice in the final against Juventus. For any football fan, this purple-trimmed polo shirt evokes the imagery of CR7 ruling Europe with absolute authority, making it an elite, emotional holy grail collector's item.
